As we age, our faces lose volume as fat and bones of the face atrophy. This loss in volume can be replaced with various filler products. Many of these products are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), which is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies. Once injected, the HA based filler binds water, allowing it to expand the tissue in which it’s been injected. There are also filler products composed of substances other than HA that are also highly effective in restoring volume loss. The substances comprising a given filler product determine its unique characteristics in terms of its volume restoration potential and duration in the skin.
